good catch of the hunrath website, rivenwanderer. The pic looks the same as the one from obduct.me/hunrath but we need some expert analysis please!

Did anyone else spot that Rand says
[Reveal] Spoiler:
"welcome to Hunrath" around 50 secs into the final kickstarter video https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hJr9QptLnKA

And, I'll pop in and say, I do believe it is actually owned by them too. All of their other domains are registered through Tucows/Hover. :D

Edit: I could have gone there before posting this. *sighs*

Ooo! Look at what I found in the source code:
Code: Select all
<img src="welcome.jpg" />
      <!-- 1389045600000 -->

That number is a comment in the code, it has no purpose as far as I can tell--what can we decode it to?

If we interpret it as a timestamp giving the number of milliseconds past the Unix epoch, we get UTC 22:00:00, Monday, January 6, 2014.

Interesting find !

Or, maybe, just maybe, we simply have to wait until the puzzle continues?

I think our best guess for the meaning of the date is Epiphany. Adventure games like the Myst series are often spoken of in terms of the epiphanies experienced while solving them.

I should have noted this wayyyyy earlier, but Wolfram Alpha is great for calculating things like this. It is incredibly powerful.

I didn't do a checksum on the files, but I did open both in GIMP, and they are visually identical (subtracting one picture from the other leaves exactly black).
EDIT: Yup. Identical checksum. I think the clue here is the number, not the pic. Not that the pic can't figure in.
