Obduction Artist Martiniere still has odd labels

Two years since this thread http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24965&hilit=martiniere and still the odd labels.

The Kickstarter page does not seem to be very specific about his role, or potential role, with Obduction.
I'll look that up BRB

I just saw the thread above, from July 2011, via your link. Christian Walther almost had it right: he linked to the correct stock images, but missed the origin of the captions, I think (he guessed that they came from automated image recognition):

In February 2011, I noticed that the Uru-related "White Room", "House", and "Jungle" images on Martiniere's site contained IPTC metadata. This metadata could be viewed in Windows by saving the files, opening their "Properties" windows, and selecting the "Details" tab. His site has changed since then, and the images no longer contain the metadata (as far as I can tell). By chance, however, you can still see this for yourself for at least one image (I have not searched for the others online): a Google search for "white room martiniere" quickly turns up this article, http://artificial10.wordpress.com/category/graphics/page/3/, and the associated image contains the original metadata.

The metadata in these particular images all linked back to Corbis stock photography: the original filenames, image descriptions, tags, and photographer attributions were all tagged in the images as "Title", "Description", etc. It is my guess that Martiniere used the stock photos as starting points for these particular artworks, and that the final files thus inherited the metadata. Regarding the captions on his site, I would guess that they were chosen automatically by a gallery-generating script or web application that found the metadata in the images and used them for the captions.

Here are the Corbis images (the first two were also linked by Christian Walther in the above thread):
http://www.corbisimages.com/stock-photo/rights-managed/GM001048/baccarat-crystal-chandelier-in-lobby (windows in "The White Room")
http://www.corbisimages.com/stock-photo/rights-managed/BY003536/budapests-parliament-building-along-the-danube (domed roof, and perhaps water and "texturing" on the buildings in "House Fog" and "House Night")
http://www.corbisimages.com/stock-photo/rights-managed/WK039551/waterfall-in-lush-rain-forest (corresponding to the Negilahn concept)

As a long-time admirer of Martiniere's work for Uru, I'll take this opportunity to say how thrilled I am that he is on-board with Obduction! :D

Excellent detective work, Merle! That sounds very plausible. Much better than my wild guess.
