Backer item information? {Possible Spoiler}

Postby rarified » Wed Sep 07, 2016 9:04 am

Is there interest in a topic for backers that had an item added to Obduction to reveal themselves and perhaps write a little about the background of their item?

I have an object in the game which I have not yet found, so I'm not ready to reveal anything yet...

[This could be under a "spoiler" heading, although if backers refrain from revealing *where* the item is, and only a description that would help keep the enjoyment of discovering it.]

We'd like to get a Backer Reward Item page created at the Obduction Wiki (http://obduction.gamepedia.com).

If you do have trouble finding your own object, we might be able to help. As for myself, I have the cute koala in Farley's house. I should post the reference pictures sometime.

I should clarify, I'm not looking for help finding my item or asking for a list where items are. I was interested in who designed which item, and why.

For example, was there anything special about why you chose to contribute the Koala?

There are a couple of memorials I've seen, obviously important to the backer. There may be a story they would like to share. Or not, for whatever reason. I suspect Cyan is being discreet in not providing a direct way to match a backer item with it's contributor.

Yes, I understand. I think the many reason is to avoid spoiling anything. I asked about it when I visited, and they just mentioned that we'd have to look for them ourselves. It's possible not many people at Cyan even know where they are. Backer rewards and other related items were done more or less by one person, though unfortunately I forget who. This includes things like the Obduction mug on the table in the Earth intro scene.

As for me, I had a hard time deciding on something, and almost missed the deadline. To his credit, Ryan encouraged me to send something in. (Thanks) The koala is a stuffed animal I've had for 30+ years, longer really than I can remember.

I like the idea of having a little info on some of the backer items. In my mind, I was seeing them as mementos of the other, unseen abductees. Even the item:
[Reveal] Spoiler:
RIUM+'s "real" Myst book.

Also, I'm OK with items not being a most-prized possession. It may just be something they had with them at the time they were abducted. And the backer should be able to remain anonymous if they like.

As for "where", that could be somewhat of a spoiler. Even a map grid reference could be spoiler and/or frustrating if it can't be immediately visited for whatever reasons. Plus there's something of a challenge aspect to find them all on our own.

A list of items is spoiler-free enough and gives people an idea if they haven't seen it yet (to go looking for it). Adding any additional info on why it was important to the contributor would be cool too and not spoil anything.

Considering like half of them are at Farley's place, it's really only the rest of them that might be worth mentioning. There aren't any in Soria I know, but I'm not sure how many are in Kaptar and Maray. I think I saw one or two, but obviously Hunrath is easier to have a lot of misc items lying around.

I'll have to look myself and make my own list. Perhaps I could PM you with a location by location list, and see if we missed anything.

Maybe I used a harsh word without my knowledge

Yeah sure Tahgtahv! Good idea!

I didn't look in Maray and Kaptar. I didn't put all the locations, most items are in 3 defined locations anyway (90% in my list)
