Are you trying compatibility mode.

Yes, tried Win95 +Win98, running as admin, changed to 32-bit, unchecked visual themes (i think thats what it was called...). Argh, not really sure what to even try now.

It’s an .xz archive, rare on Mac OS. It’s not an additional file, is a different version of the ScummVM app; you have to decompress it (e.g. with Stuffit Expander or The Unarchiver).

YAHOOOO! IT WORKS!!!! Korov'ev, YOU RULE
Alright, there is one problem tho... After happily playing the game awhile, I realized there is no obvious way to save or even quit the game. There is no available bar at the top at all. I did change the setting in ScummVM to fullscreen, after discovering I couldn't change it to fullscreen once the game had started. Is there something else I can do or will I be stuck playing on a teenyweeny screen?
Thank You!
So so so happy to have made it this far!

Great
Saving, loading and and quitting can be done through the menu that appear with ctrl-F5.
In the Launcher, with Myst selected, you can click
Edit Game and set a few parameters; under
Graphics you can set it to fullscreen, or pick a
graphic filter (I like HQ2x, though it doesn’t seem to smooth the edges with Myst).

Hmm, I had changed it to HQ2x, but under 'Options' not 'Edit Game'. Trying now....

Ok, the size of the window is much better... However~ control+f5 does nothing, and command+f5 just tries to turn on some VoiceOver program....

Ha, so this stupid voiceover thingy is turned off, and I am able to get a menu with command+f5, BUT it doesn't have a 'Save Game' option... I have 2 check boxes (Zip Mode Activated + Transitions Enabled), a 'Drop Page' button (which is not highlighted), a 'Show Map' button, and then just 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons.... Hummmm....

Sweet, nevermind, now saving works too!!!! Korov'ev, I can't thank you enough! I hope you don't mind if I re-post your most excellent advice on the some other forums? This was WAAAAY simpler than Wine, or any other suggestion. Can't believe it actually works

I'm glad it works. But I personally am surprised that ScummVM works like that. I thought is was meant for programs written with the Scumm engine. You know, those early lucasArts games. I just can't help wonder why it works like this.

I have no idea why, but after so so long and trying so many different things, hitting my head against the wall, and nearly giving up, I'm just glad it does

And really quite easily too, for someone who is not tech savvy like me.

The development build supports the
Mohawk engine, used for the Windows port of Myst, originally a Mac game

Hopefully, one day, it will be included in the stable version. EDIT: in fact, ScummVM supports
many more engines besides Scumm.

Well, ScummVM has worked amazingly, and maybe this issue has nothing to do with it... I just started a new thread for this, but thought I'd add this comment here too, just in case...
I have ONE Age left... and I can't get it to work!
Channelwood. I have turned the water on, got the pipes all flowing in the right places, but I cannot get either elevator to work! I can hear the motors running (yes, for one elevator at a time) but when I go in and pull the lever, nothing happens. Also, when I am trying to use the elevator to the Book, I lose ALL sound until I go out and move something else (ie. a switch, etc.).
Anyone had anything like this happen? Know a way to fix it?
Many thanks.

Well, after restarting 3x from scratch + 5x from earlier save points, the elevators are working. Dunno what was up with that...
Fingers are crossed I'll be able to use ScummVM with Riven + Exile.
I love these games
