Does Crosover support EAX? I don't think so but if it does disable it in game., I have had bad resaults with none-creative implementations of EAX.

I have found success with the sound problem in URU:CC. My "Hackintosh" had been running a previous version of Crossover, and Codeweavers just posted a new version 14.0 which has totally cured the problem. URU:CC as installed from Steam now runs perfectly with Crossover updated to v 14.0. No random noises, no problem with Zandi's portable radio sound. Everything runs with the default audio settings... it's no longer necessary to reduce the "number of sounds."

Hi wstrohm,

Do you know which version/engine of Wine this version of Crossover is based upon? It would be nice to update my Wineskin to use the same.

Ainia,

On this web page: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/announce/?t=24;msg=167623 you will see in paragraph 4 that Crossover v 14.0.0 is using WINE version 1.7.25.

Also: https://www.winehq.org/announce/1.7.25

This note applies to Myst Online: URU Live, and I am aware this forum is for URU: Complete Chronicles. However the Cyan listing here for MOUL does not link to a forum, so I am writing this off-topic note here.

I had a serious problem using the latest version (14.0.1) of Crossover (by Codeweavers) to access MOUL. The loading process failed with various errors, such as "Access Violation" and others. I found that thanks to "korovev" on the mystonline forum, downloading and installing this app: http://www.mediafire.com/download/liw9om1aw7wdl6l/Uru_Live_Cider.dmg worked around the problem. But there is one caveat. In the "dat" folder, which is well-buried in the contents of the app, there are two files which must be removed prior to EACH opening of MOUL: The files are "GlobalClothing_District_FemaleFan01.prp and GlobalClothing_District_MaleFan01.prp" and this issue will, according to korovev, persist until a subsequent update of "Cider." However, given that inconvenience, MOUL now works perfectly for me. (Be aware that using this Cider app will result in a complete download of MOUL, about 1.17 GB. But it works.)

While you should probably post this in a new topic, here's an idea:

(based on some of your comments, I'm assuming you have a mac)

Type the following into termial: rm –Rf
then type in the filepath and name. For example: rm –Rf /Users/UserName/Desktop/filename.txt
This would delete a file on the desktop called filename.txt

You do this for each command. Combine them into one line with a semicolon. Like this:
rm –Rf /Users/UserName/Desktop/filename.txt; rm –Rf /Users/UserName/Desktop/filename2.txt

This will delete those two files. You can enter the file name easily by dragging the file into terminal after typing in the rm -Rf part.

If you want to get really fancy you could also create a script of this so all you would have to do is double-click it. But copy and paste from a text file would work just fine too.

NOTE: you may need to include the sudo command before this depending on where the files are located.

Magic, thanks for the tip. As it happens, someone had done that very thing, i.e. written an Automator script which should with a single click delete those two files and (maybe) open MOUL. Used before opening MOUL, it would make the workaround very easy until Cider is updated. However, I tried it, and got an error message thus: "The action "Launch Application" encountered an error." Not smart enough here to know how to deal with that!

It might have the wrong path in it, as everyone's computer is a bit different. Maybe I could help with that though. Could you post the script here? You right-click (or control-click. I think it's control) to bring up the context menu, and click edit. That will open the script in text editor. Then just copy and paste.

I've never been able to use Automator. It's supposed to be a simple way to create these scripts, but for whatever reason I found it too complicated. I kept having problems with it. But I do have some real scripting experience, and this should be a fairly simple script to create, so I may be able to fix it.

Magic,

There are actually three files in the folder: MystOnlineLauncher.app, MystOnlineLauncher.sh , and MystOnlineStatusServer.sh

Hopefully what I paste here is what you want to see...

From MystOnlineLauncher.app, inside Package Contents there are a number of files. Opening the "Application Stub" inside "Mac OS" I see this:

I told you, you have to first launch Automator, then open the applet from inside it. You don’t and shouldn’t directly edit the files in the applet (unless you know what you’re doing).
Alternatively, you can follow the step-by-step instructions by Stone to make one yourself. Or you can make a shell script.

PS: Ainia made a modified Cider wrapper first. I just made my own version.

Well, I tried running the downloaded applet from both inside and outside Automator, and both ways had error messages. HOWEVER, I did finally fix the applet (even though you might say I really didn't know what I was doing). I posted my results here: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=27623 and am now playing MOUL with a single click on the applet's "MystOnlineLauncher.app" icon in my dock. MOUL plays faultlessly. Quitting is not perfect because of the "R6025 runtime error." But that's just a minor annoyance.

wstrohm wrote:Magic, thanks for the tip.

Hi wstrohm,

Just a minor point, Cider will not be updated in order to fix this bug (Cider is a wrapper just like Wineskin and Crossover); when the MOULa content is updated and rolled out, we are expecting/hoping this error will be fixed. If you want to know the gory details about this bug, you can read the spoiler.

[Reveal] Spoiler: Gory details!
In November 2013 (right after their successful Obduction Kickstarter), in a fit of enthusiasm Cyan rolled out a MOULa update that contained, among many other things, some fan-made avatar wardrobe enhancements contained in the two brand new files GlobalClothing_District_FemaleFan01.prp and GlobalClothing_District_MaleFan01.prp. It turned out that one of these wardrobe updates was a t-shirt showing a copyright-protected image, so Cyan immediately rolled back to the old version of MOULa. However, because of the way their updates actually work these two new files couldn't simply be deleted. So instead, they replaced them with content-less files with identical filenames.

Cyan's "fix" works fine for all the Windows and non-Cider Mac installations of MOULa; however, with Cider, it does not. I don't know why and am not intending to investigate the details. My wild guess is that some flavor of internal consistency checking in Cider detects a problem and then aborts/crashes the game. Or maybe gremlins. :P

Ainia,

Thanks for the details in the Spoiler area of your last post. Much water under the bridge since I wrote here last. My Cider thread http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=27623 initially described my "fix" for MOUL on my Mac under Yosemite (Mac OS X 10.10.1). And it did work beautifully... for a while. Then I started having problems loading again. Eventually the loading success rate dropped down to about 25%, which I consider unacceptable. Re-installing from the Cider.dmg file and using "korovev's" Cider scripts did not improve things. So, I went back to Crossover, this time version 14.0.3, and installed MOUL again (from the Myst Online server). Under Crossover, loading Uru Live proceeds up until one second from the end of the first "Updating..." screen and then stalls permanently. I had seen this problem a while back, and now it is 100% repeatable. So at the moment, I am out of the cavern again. I suspect the Crossover version of Wine (1.7.25) leaves out some critical Microsoft file needed by my client app but don't know what it is.

(FWIW, the "dat" folder in the current version of the client download does NOT contain the "Global Clothing District Female Fan" or "Global Clothing District Male Fan" files that need to be removed from the Cider client download.)

Hmm, you may want to PM boblishman. He has reportedly upgraded to Yosemite and hasn't had trouble with his MOULa and shard wrappers (though admittedly I haven't heard any recent news about this).

He's a bit more active on the MOULa forums, so you might want to PM him there too.
