Myst Mechanical Age Reboot

With this year marking the 20th anniversary of Myst, I have been thinking about Myst a bit more than usual. It strikes me how small the ages of Myst are. I'm sure part of this is due to the limited time and computing power the Miller Brothers had while creating Myst, and I'm sure another part is to aid in game mechanics. (Imagine having to walk for miles, searching for clues, especially in the slideshow format of Myst...)

I tried to imagine what the ages of Myst might be like if they were remade...
Larger for starts, but beyond that, the imagination goes wild.

I hope to add textures and actually render the clip sometime soon (soon being a matter of weeks to months, I have a lot of other things going on, and 3D rendering is not the quickest of hobbies.)

That looks awesome. Although I would've imagined the fortress to be higher. Oh, and lemme guess: SketchUp?

Yes, I use SketchUp for the 3D modeling. It is quick, versatile (if you know a few tricks...), free, and easy to use. I know it may not be the most professional program, but I'm not trying to create the next summer blockbuster, just having fun. Anyways, I will be using an outside rendering program for the final clip, so the results should be much more photo-realistic.

As for the height, I chose a low, horizontal form to give the fortress a feeling of security. The downward sloping sides are to deflect projectiles, cannonballs, arrows, or whatever else the black ships might be throwing at the fortress down into the sea. (plus I thought it looked cool.)

just a quick update, I am nearly finished rendering in higher quality. The size isn't amazing (the clip is 180 frames long, and I need my computer for other things than just rendering you know...) but it is textured and should look good. I'll hopefully have it up in a few days.
