I have just installed and run Riven under Mac OS 10.12.6 (Sierra) using a Riven installer found in post #1 of this website:

It will install SCUMM VM version 2.1.0 onto your hard disk or SSD, IF you have available a purchased copy of RIVEN, either the 10th anniversary DVD, or the original 5-CD set. The installer has to be able to access the data files to complete the installation. I found that once that is done, playing Riven is easy. It will come up in full screen, although that can later be changed on the Options screen of Scumm VM. (Control-F5 will take you to the save menu and other options.)
The app is free, and it works perfectly for me.
FWIW, here is my computer setup:
Hardware
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700 (3.4 GHz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIFI
RAM: Kingston 16 GB RAM DDR4 (2133 MHz)
Storage: (2) Samsung 850 EVO SSD (250 GB each)
Graphics: Gigabyte nVidia GTX 1050 TI OC (4 GB VRAM)
Case: Thermaltake SD 101
Firmware
Gigabyte AMI BIOS version F22e
Software
Mac OS 10.12.6 (Sierra)
nVidia WebDriver 378.05.05.25f06
SCUMM VM version 2.1.0git841 - g59eeadc (Feb 6 2018 04:49:52)
RIVEN data files from 10th anniversary DVD
I hope this helps someone; I've been trying for the last 3 years to get Riven running on my "Hackintosh," and this was the first success!
