there's a new, and different, pic on twitter - it looks like an ancient book as well. https://twitter.com/DniRelto/status/373465147919978496/photo/1

edited with further observation on the twitter pic: it looks like there's a blurry bottle of ink in the foreground.

Looks like the Myst book. Perhaps Atrus' desk in K'veer?

It's the Generic Linking Book Without The MYST Text On It(tm) from the original Myst. All linking books look like that - except for the Myst ones, which has "MYST" on the cover.

And Ainia, you may be right. Note @DniRelto's follows.

Hm, we have a bit of a puzzle here.
Images that do not match existing Myst games, but are too good not to be.
A post by Hannah stating that this is not a project Cyan is working on.
A story-line involving characters that RAWA has clearly stated, are off limits. Nevertheless, the thread is not closed.
Some images are blurred.
Let me throw in a bit of wild speculation (very wild perhaps):
A Myst-Movie would not be a Cyan product, so not something Cyan is "working" on right?

The idea with the Myst movie is interesting...but I wanna note two things:

1. In the interview Rand talked about the movie and sounded a lot like they would be involved in the making of the movie besides allowing the use of Myst and stuff. He said something like "we don't really know how Hollywood works" in a context that made it sound like "we'll try it without any help, but it probably won't work" (okay, very pessimistic here!) So it would actually be a project that Cyan is working on.

2. The "storyline" is just quotes from the novels (as far as I understand it), so they're not any kind of fan-fic. The images maybe, but they don't (yet) contain anything that would be "off-limits".

That off-limits bit was perhaps a bit strong.
Not commented on would have been better. ;)

This wouldn't happen to be linked to Myst's 20th Anniversary, would it?
...then it crapped the bed and stackdumped.

Aaaand the companion tweet reads:

Another new tree grows again.

I'm assuming these are more quotes from the books but am away from my searchable copy ATM. I will check for sure soon...

End of Myst V:
Atrus wrote:You have truly become the Grower. You bring D’ni back to life. Another circle closes, another new tree grows again.

Edit: Corrected source of quote.

Thanks Zardoz! :)

However, it looks like this was Atrus talking about Yeesha (i.e., not Yeesha talking).

A very interesting collection of quotes we have here now:

  • What do you see, Atrus?... ...I see stars Grandmother. A great ocean of stars... [Book of Atrus]
  • "Here," she said... [...quietly, aware of how far voices could travel in this exposed terrain. "Take the salt and flour down to the storeroom." Book of Atrus (Tai'lahr)]
  • "We'll begin again here" [Book of Ti'ana (Vector Cramp)]
  • He writes but does not lead. He advises but does not command. He wonders and seeks to understand... ...He loves life and quietly moves to the mark that the Maker has set for him. [Book of D'ni (Tai'lahr)]
  • Another circle closes... ...Another new tree grows again. [Myst V: End of Ages (Zardoz)]

Atrus is connected to most of the quotes. And disregarding the sources and speakers, stringing them all together seems to point toward new directions, new beginnings...

Hmmmmmm...
