Riven: save game and load saved game bug(SOLVED)

Sorry but it is above my level.

I tried installing Riven on my desktop but scummvm cannot play it.

I get two messages,
1- One saying that Riven is not supported
2- I said "start Anyway".
3- I get a debugger error window and it said "error: Could not find a "rmap resource with id 0001!.
Type exit

Btw, I did a small check on the GOG forums and saw many windows 7 & 64 bit bugs.

Are you sure you're using the correct version? Make sure you're using the "Latest Development Build" from the link I provided. It should say version 1.10.0. The latest stable build (version 1.9.0) won't support Riven at all. You'll still get the message that the game isn't supported, but it should work fine.

If you still have trouble (or you are already using the dev version), make sure all the required files are copied to the Riven install folder. I posted the link previously to that list.

Just to check, I installed the gog version of Riven last night. Currently running Win 8.1. It works fine. Got a bit of a glitch starting the game (gave me an error), but it started anyway. Played for a bit and didn't encounter any problems. Saves work normally. That is now 5 different systems with 3 different OSs that I've used the gog version on without problems.
I also tried the ScummVM engine to play it, and it too worked just fine. Actually it worked better as I didn't get that error message on startup.

I have checked my Riven folder and I can see a Riven. exe
The space before exe was added by me.

Make sure you've copied all these files from the DVD. It seems like the installer did not include everything. You need all of them in order for the game to run:

Lets go back a little.

When I try to install Scummvum from my downloads it does not show an executable and if I go inside the folder I do not see a setup.exe. Is that normal ?

It does no show up in program files. Is that normal

I can see a big green S.exe that will open an add Game but when I click the Riven folder it still does see the Riven.exe.

I have seen your list files and they are all there. I double checked by recoping them from the dvd.

Ok, the version of ScummVM you've downloaded does not need installed, so there's no setup.exe or install.exe. It will run straight from the folder you downloaded. The big green S icon called scummvm is the exe file, so there's no need to do anything else.
You'll probably want to move it from your downloads folder so you have better access to it though.

You know, it occurs to me that this might be a permissions issue. It shouldn't be an issue but Windows is silly sometimes. When you run ScummVM, right-click to bring up the menu, and select 'Run as Administrator'. See if that works.

I am beginning to see 3 problemos;

1- Yours as described above.
2- It will search where scumm decides to. It does not want to search on desktop.
3- I have just found out that wanting to install Riven in a created folder on my desktop it also made an incomplete game folder in my Program Files (86) folder.
Which scumm pointed to without me knowing. "not showing a full normal path".

I starting to feel hungry by now.
Only had breakfast this morning.(time here 22:41)

Scumm says : Select directory with game data...
it shows Users/users-name/desktop/w64-master-743b45c

Tell me how I get scrummvm to find this location...

Forget about my last post above.

I created a "files for riven" folder on my desktop and copy all your files list inside that folder with the Riven.exe included.

I did a scummvm directory search and it showed a Riven folder on the desktop. Me guessing that it did see the folder files for riven as a Riven data folder.

Anyway, I was able to start the game. My only "hic" was to find how to save a game. I did a search on the net and found the hotkey F5 to access the menu.

That's great!! Glad you finally got it working.

Now for Myst, you do the exact same thing, except with the Myst disc. You'll need the following files:

Thank you for the Myst files. I am surprised not to see a Myst.exe file

As for the Riven game, would you know the location of the Scummvm saved games location ? I did an unproductive search through Windows 7 start menu search and a visual search over the pc or on the Net and It was and a no go ?

Save games should be located in the following folder:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ScummVM\Saved games\

Note that the AppData folder is a hidden folder, so you'll have to enable viewing hidden folders in the folder options.

A quick way to open the AppData folder is to open a window (ctrl-N) and paste “%appdata%\ScummVM” in the address bar (ctrl-L).

An awesome feature are the scaling filters, which you can pick from Options... (or Edit game... if you want a filter for that game only) > Graphics > Graphics mode.

The Steam version of Riven throws a “MinGW Runtime Assertion” alert when using the spider chair, but if you get a similar alert you can usually just click Ignore and keep going.
