Cyan has two companies?

Postby samd » Sat May 21, 2016 4:50 pm

After the departure of brother Robyn Miller from "Cyan, Inc.," a second company, "Cyan Worlds, Inc.," was started. Both companies are located, which company are you? from wikipedia?

I'm quite sure the two are just different names from different times for the same company. Look at the footer of this website:

Myst Online: Uru Live™® is the sole property of Cyan Worlds Inc. Copyright 2003-2015 Cyan Worlds, Inc. All Rights reserved.
Myst is a registered trademark of Cyan, Inc. © 1994-2015 Cyan, Inc. The Myst logo is a registered trademark of Cyan, Inc.
Myst and all character names and likenesses are trademarks of Cyan, Inc.

Maybe they were originally called Cyan, then changed to Cyan Worlds during Uru times, then went back to Cyan (at the moment they call themselves Cyan, Inc., I think).

My recollection is that they switched to "Cyan Worlds" while trying to build up a side business of making Plasma worlds for other companies. The Crowthistle worlds were a demo or promo or test of that business. But it didn't take off, obviously.

You can do a trademark search for this stuff.

They adopted Cyan Worlds around 2000/2001 right before Uru then reverted back to Cyan in 2012/2013 for marketing purposes. Seems they wanted to rekindle their old 90s image, what better way to that than return to their old name and logo.
